My body is home ~ Mary Lambert ~ Body Love (Part 1 & 2)

I know girls who are trying to fit into the social norm

Like squeezing into last year’s prom dress
I know girls who are low rise, mac eye shadow, and binge drinking
I know girls that wonder if they’re disaster and sexy enough to fit in
I know girls who are fleeing bombs from the mosques of their skin
Playing Russian roulette with death; it’s never easy to accept that our bodies are fallible and flawed
But when do we draw the line?
When the knife hits the skin?
Isn’t it the same thing as purging
Because we’re so obsessed with death
Some women just have more guts than others
The funny thing is women like us don’t shoot
We swallow pills, still wanting to be beautiful at the morgue
Still proceeding to put on make-up
Still hoping that the mortician finds us fuckable and attractive
We might as well be buried with our shoes and handbags and scarves, girls
We flirt with death every time we etch a new tally mark into our skin
I know how to split my wrists to reveal a battlefield too
But the time has come for us to reclaim our bodies
Our bodies deserve more than to be war-torn and collateral
Offering this fuckdom as a pathetic means to say,
“I only know how to exist when I am wanted.”
Girls like us are hardly ever wanted, you know
We’re used up and we’re sad and drunk and
Perpetually waiting by the phone for someone to pick up and tell us that we did good
Well, you did good.
(I know I am because I said, “I am.”
My body is home)
Try this
Take your hands over your bumpy love body naked
And remember the first time you touched someone
With the sole purpose of learning all of them
Touched them because the light was pretty on them
And the dust in the sunlight danced the way your heart did
Touch yourself with a purpose
Your body is the most beautiful royal
Fathers and uncles are not claiming your knife anymore
Are not your razor, no
Put the sharpness back
Lay your hands flat and feel the surface of scarred skin
I once touched a tree with charred limbs
The stump was still breathing
But the tops were just ashy remains
I wonder what it’s like to come back from that because
Because sometimes I feel forest fires erupting from my wrists
And the smoke signals sent out are the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen
Love your body the way your mother loved your baby feet
And brother arm wrapping shoulders, and remember
This is important
You are worth more than who you fuck
You are worth more than a waistline
You are worth more than beer bottles displayed like drunken artifacts.
You are worth more than any naked body could proclaim in the shadows,
More than a man’s whim or your father’s mistake
You are no less valuable as a size 16 than a size 4
You are no less valuable as a 32a than a 36c
Your sexiness is defined by concentric circles within your wood
It is wisdom
You are a goddamn tree stump with leaves sprouting out
Have a wonderful weekend!!

Beyond Fat-Shaming : Creator of body positive documentary receiving online threats

Hello Loves,

This really messed up my morning, but I wanted to share something I came across on XO Jane today:

The following day he posted my address and the addresses and phone numbers of my husband’s business, my family members and all the interviewees in our film on a site called pastebin.

Lindsey Averill is one of the creators of FATTITUDE, a documentary about fat acceptance and the movement towards body acceptance. After launching her project on Kickstarter, she started receiving hateful comments and Youtube videos from a troll.  At first this was easily dismissed, but due to this persons large following of disgusting, vile “human” beings, this has now moved into scary territory for Lindsey, her friends, family, and backers of the film.

The entire article is linked below.

Honestly, I just have such a hard time understanding what the point of this is. Of being so hateful and tormenting a stranger, for something that does not affect your life in any way! I’m just disgusted and bummed out.

Anyway, hopefully this goes away as quickly as it started, and FATITUDE will have great success.

(Non) Curvy Wisdom : What I learned by watching YouTube makeup channels all week!

Hey guys!

So I’d like to share something about me that you didn’t know.   I’m always late, literally and figuratively.  New great TV shows or websites, I’m always the last to check it out.  I just joined Twitter a year ago, got my first laptop in 2010, and never, ever go on YouTube.

Until this week…and I’m now obsessed.

I’ve been watching makeup and beauty reviews all week.  It began with trying to find something to help my oily skin (which I did!) and now I’ve learned so many things that I can’t wait to try out! And since sharing is caring, here are my favorite beauty channels and videos.  Enjoy!

Emily is AWESOME! She’s very knowledgeable and truthful in her reviews, and very budget-conscious.

I like Nicole alot.  She’s very cute and has a great personality, also very knowledgeable and has a funky style.

I’ve only watched a few videos, but so far so good.  Cassandra has a sweet personality and finds great deals.

I also got amazing tips along the way:

Milk of Magnesia for oily skin!

I couldn’t believe it!!  I was about to purchase an HD powder from Makeup Forever that was like…$40 dollars or something insane like that!!  I have MOM sitting in my medicine cabinet, so of course I tried it, and loved it! Kept me oil free…ALL.DAY.LONG! Amazing!

Coastal Scents Silica Spheres

Speaking of expensive Makeup Forever powder, Coastal Scents has the exact same powder (3 times the size by the way) for $4! Already ordered it, got it last week.  Amazing stuff, keeps me shine free all day and keeps my makeup staying put for much longer.

(If you haven’t figured it out by now, I have an oil slick on my face!!)

Monistat chafing gel as a primer

Holy…crap! This is the funk primer! See Nicole’s review (at the :50 second mark) I started it the same day I started the Milk of Magnesia, and let me say, it is SO smooth and silky! Your makeup will stay put, I promise you!

Ok I could do this all night!  You get the picture, I’m loving all this knowledge, especially at a bargain!  There are exclamation points all over the place, I’m so thrilled! 🙂
